Truth or fake: Oschadbank is going to help farmers demine land for a loan
A post circulating on social media from the OshchadBusiness Facebook page has stirred quite a buzz, as Oshchadbank offers farmers a loan to de-mine their farmland. The post declares, “With the new program ‘Sowing without mines,’ you can get up to UAH 150 million to clear your land of mines at an interest rate of up to 3% per annum”.
Many people were outraged by this banking service’s statement. One user writes, “This is the pits!!!(((((( Someone explain to them at whose expense Oshchadbank can continue eating bread without shell fragments!!?" Some even question the legitimacy of the page, “I hope it’s a hoax.”
No, this is not a hoax. The OschadBusiness page is indeed owned by Oshchadbank, and the information shared in the post is true, and can be verified on the bank’s official website.
An employee from the bank’s head office, Ihor Sokolenko, confirmed that Oshchadbank “did indeed offer a new product to farmers.” Sokolenko highlighted the acute issue of mine contamination in Ukrainian fields, emphasizing that businesses have the choice of waiting for state-led de-mining or taking matters into their own hands. That’s why the bank provides financial assistance.
